On the 26th of January 08 one of our rising young handlers, Riah from Mount Perry received an award for her role in the community with the handling of dogs and with the help for our club. The ceremony took place at Mt Perry on Australia day. Congratulations goes to Riah especially from the Bundaberg canine club and we hope there are many more awards to come for Riah. Well done!
Also news happening in Mt Perry just after xmas 07 Graham Burgess who is the husband of Margaret Burgess had a tractor roll on top of him and he was pinned under the tractor and on top of a barbed wire fence. Their trusty Australian Champion Mareema sheep dog known as FLUFFY alerted Marg at the house that there was something wrong. Marg located Graham and called for help. Thankfully Graham only received minor injuries They would like to thank neighbours, ambulance, SES, and anyone else who participated in the rescue that i have missed. NO MORE TRACTORS GRAHAM! Well done FLUFFY you are not just a champion show dog in Grahams eyes

When local club member Fran enquired to Bundaberg Member of Parliament, Jack Dempsey, about the possible introduction of a law forcing dog owners to desex their animals, this is the reply she recieved:
Dear Fran, There are currently no bills or laws due to be tabled regarding the desexing of dogs. There was a e-petition tabled before parliament requesting the house to enact such a law, but it is unlikely that such a law would be drawn up and tabled. As you pointed out, such a law would be far too onerous for casual breeders and dog owners to abide by. I hope this information has been helpful, and I hope you are able to enjoy many more years of breeding and showing your dogs.
Unfortunately Jack is unable to attend the dog show on February 10 due to prior commitments, but wishes you all the best for a successful event.
Yours sincerely,
Aaron Johnson Assistant Electorate Officer

Barking Mad
The Bundaberg Canine club held its annual christmas party which was held at the clubhouse on Saturday the 1st of December 2007. Starting at 4:30pm There was approx 35 attendants including children. The club put on a BBQ for members with yummy christmas sweets treats and entertainment. The rain didn't stop the children from playing cricket then french cricket. All the children got a suprise when santa turned up with presents for all the children then nice yummies for all the women who then got to sit on santas knee. Poor santa was so tired he had to depart early but was happy to come back next year. THANKYOU SANTA for making the long trip down from the north pole to make our xmas party a special night. Our clubs president gave out the tropheys for Australian champions and we had 1 lucky member receive an award for a Grand Champion so well done to all members that have received tropheys for 2007. The children then entertained the adults with red rover cross over/ bull rush. Patrick and Jennifer from Dirty dancing came and gave us a wrestling match which was fun to watch. Then the entertainment didn't stop there as our dirty dancers did a preformance doing that great lift from the famous movie and the kids were so intrigued that the famous Patrick gave the children a lesson at being lifted over his head. The party finished at approx 10pm with some of the members still partying on as the last of the members left. A great night was had by all. A thankyou goes to all the members that made this night possible and we hope you all enjoyed yourselves by making the effort to come and celebrate Christmas. See you all and hopefully more next year.
I have just received information that the new legislation under the animal legislation amendment (animal care) bill 2007 went through on the 4th of Dec 07. This will affect all dogs who have been docked since the ruling came in & they will not be allowed to be shown in Victoria unless you can prove they were legally docked by a vet & a certificate must be provided to prove it's a legal "docking" & the reasons for being docked. This will only affect those breeds that were docked after the first legislation came in, those docked before that date are deemed "legally docked". Those who have WA registrations will need a vets certificate as will any docked breed from any state wishing to exhibit in Victoria. This also covers any dog which has been "Debarked" illegally. Bob tails will also need a certificate to say they are natural bobtails & not illegally docked or shortened. There is also a law against breeding dogs with known hereditary diseases. The VCA has done a deal whereby they will be policing these dogs rather than the RSPCA coming to the shows. VCA intends to change the registration of puppies which will now state that the puppies have not been docked illegally, entry forms will also be changed to state that the exhibit has not illegally been docked. All those who have been docked after the first law came in will have to carry a certificate to prove it was done by a vet. NO CERTIFICATE NO SHOWING IN VICTORIA. I believe this will come into effect from the 1st of January 2008. The saddest part is the people being targeted by this law are your registered breeders who are already governed by strict canine councils rules. Now this rule has come into place in Victoria it is only a matter of time & it will be on our backdoor step.
